| Beginning
with go karts, inspired by Duffy Livingstone and the
races in the May Company parking lot in West Covina, Dave
had a successful racing career in high school. Moving
into automobiles in the early 60's as a college
student, Dave was attracted by the "no
age requirements" in Canadian sportscar racing.
Campaigning an MGA, then a Twin Cam and then a Porsche
550, Dave amassed a number of wins on the regional and
divisional level. A brief interruption by the
service and then pro racing produced some reasonable USRRC finishes in the
ex Holbert RS62 Porsche, unexciting
performance in the ex Jim Clark Lotus 40 and a
marginal season in Formula 5000 led Dave to investigate
the newly formed IMSA organization.
From a humble
start in a Fiat 850 at the first IMSA race at Danville
and a few Corvette rides in later IMSA GT events, Dave
hit his stride in the Champion Sparkplug Series; his two
car Earl's Performance Products Mazda team winning a
championship. As a co-inventor of the Escort Endurance
Series (now World Challenge), Dave became an endurance
racing expert, his renowned Mitsubishi teams winning
everything in sight in SCCA and IMSA for a few years;
plus the Baja 1000, Pikes Peak Hillclimb and assorted
Pro Rally championships. A move to Kia produced more Pro
Rally wins through the 90's. Today, Dave is competing in
hillclimbs, winning a few, and happily living in the
woods near Yosemite National Park.
