Legends of Riverside Film Fest Set for March Almost everyone harbors some cherished personal memory of California’s legendary Riverside International Raceway, be it firsthand participation in or attendance at events, watching race broadcasts or films on TV, or simply reading magazine reports of how great the racing was there. Sadly, the circuit itself is long gone, another victim of Southern California’s unending urban sprawl, but Doug Magnon’s new Riverside International Raceway Museum has sprung up in town to keep the memories alive. This March 27–29 it will do just that, hosting a commemorative event, Legends of Riverside, to honor all that went on there. Joining forces with Dave Wolin’s Automotive Film Festival, the museum will present a weekend filled with memories from the circuit including numerous screenings of racing films, a tribute to Paul Newman, several panel discussions featuring well-known racers, and a silent auction of related memorabilia, art, and photography. The festivities will also feature food, with a buffet dinner Friday night, a retrospective luncheon on Saturday, and that evening’s “Memories of RIR” awards dinner honoring worthy racers from the track’s early days. All proceeds from this inaugural event will go to worthy charities, among them the Parkinson’s Institute, the Iacocca Foundation, the Hole in the Wall Camps, and the CHP 11-99 Foundation. This is a limited attendance event with only 150 tickets available, so act fast. For complete information about the event visit www.legendsofriverside.com, or call (951) 369-6966. |
