Tony Settember

A Californian of Italian descent, Tony raced Corvettes and a Mercedes 300SL in the States before coming to Europe, where, initially driving a WRE-Maserati sports car, he took a win in the Naples GP at Posillipo.

Settember commissioned Emeryson to build a chassis for the 1962 Formula One season, but the no success was achieved. IHe and Hugh Powell then formed the Scirocco-Powell team for 1963, using BRM power. The car was attractive but never worked well, the best finish being a second place in the non-championship Austrian GP.

When they finally called a halt to to the Formula One effort, Settember continued his racing activities in the USRRC with both a Lotus 23 and 30, and then an AC Cobra, before trying his hand at Can-Am in the late sixties with a Lola T70. He also competed in the early seventies in the F5000 series between 1972 and 1974 with a Lola T330.
