Welcome to Legends of Riverside IV

Honoring Bobby Unser

The Riverside International Automotive Museum is proud to announce Bobby Unser as Honoree for Legends of Riverside IV, held March 31 – April 1, 2012. Bobby Unser has compiled one of the most impressive lists of accomplishments in American racing history. He is one of seven drivers to win the Indianapolis 500 three times, and one of only two to have won the 500 in three different decades (‘68, ‘75, ‘81).

Bobby drove for many of the great racing teams and car owners. He was instrumental in the testing and development of race cars for Dan Gurney’s All American Racers in the 1970s. Bobby is a true Legend of Riverside having raced there over the three decades of the ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s. Like many, Bobby is quite emotional about the old RIR. "Riverside lasted a long time. It was a fantastic race track and had an awfully good reputation, and the people that worked it and ran it, everything was all good. I mean really good."

"I have a lot of good memories about Riverside, and I wish it was still there. And I wish that it would never had gone away. I think it was probably the finest road circuit in the United States." "To the fans, it didn't make any difference where on the racetrack they saw the cars, it was exciting and good. And always competitive!" Bobby’s awards include induction into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1990; the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in 1997; and the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 1994.

Legends of Riverside is a celebration that started four years ago. Held annually at the Riverside International Automotive Museum, Legends celebrates the racing greats of the era. Past honorees include Dan Gurney, Carroll Shelby and Parnelli Jones. The event features over 50 veteran race drivers and tickets for purchase are limited to 150, and sells out each year. The two day reunion features a stellar list of racing greats; one of the largest gatherings of racers from the ‘50’s, 60’s and 70’s found in one place at one time. They join together to honor all that the renowned racetrack is so fondly remembered for. Along with great food, drink, and camaraderie, drivers and fans share their experiences and enjoy a showing of some rarely seen racing footage.

A number of special awards are to be presented to those who contributed so much to our racing heritage. In addition to camaraderie, other events include a silent auction of assorted racing memorabilia, an autograph signing by racing personalities and a display of historic racing cars. Attendees will also be treated to viewing some of the spectacular race machines driven by Bobby Unser, as well as many other great cars on display at the Museum. Most importantly, proceeds from this event will go to the Tony Stewart Foundation.

Ticket are limited to 150 total, so get your's now before they sell out. For more information you can contact the Museum located in Riverside at: 815 Marlborough, Riverside, Calif. 92507 (951) 369-6966 Open: Monday- Saturday, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM.
